During the property purchase process, it’s relatively common to employ the services of inspectors to look at:
· Electrical
· Pest
· Building
· Pool
· Strata Records
but have you ever considered drug assessment?
We liaised with Stephen Challinor from Engage Environmental Services to get a little more information about asbestos and what an assessor can do for you.
Testing homes for Methamphetamine, can be conducted when people are purchasing a home or where the home is tenanted.
Methamphetamine Contamination can cause health issues to home owners and with an increase in use of the drug, assessors are finding an increase in need.
Amphetamine and Methamphetamine are manufactured in clandestine labs, trafficked and sold illegally. Australia has become one of the largest consumers in the world of Methamphetamine.
Data from the National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program indicates that crystal methamphetamine is the highest consumed illicit drug in Australia, in both capital cities and regional sites. (Cracksintheice.org.au, Australian Government Department of Health, 2019)
The 2016 National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that 6.3% or 1.3 million Australians over the age of 14 had ever used methamphetamine (including ice, speed or base) and 1.4% reported recent use (in the past 12 months) (Cracksintheice.org.au, Australian Government Department of Health, 2019)
Some of the reasons for the prevalence of Methamphetamine use is the easy access to the pre-cursor chemicals for manufacture, the cost to manufacture and the short time frame to manufacture.
Currently there is no legislative requirement to test for Methamphetamine or clandestine drug labs.
There are existing guidelines for cleaning former clandestine drug labs. Licensed assessors apply best practice in their approach to sampling which provides clients with assurance that professional contaminated specialists are undertaking the sampling and interpretation of the results.
